East African Business Week (Kampala)
Rwanda: Sgt Robert Launches Kama Jeshi Album

5 July 2010

July 4, is when the Rwanda Patriotic Army liberated the country from the Habyarimana regime.

The Habyarimana regime survived on hate campaign against Tutsi. The propaganda sparked off a genocide which reportedly left over million Rwandans killed and others maimed.

Sgt Robert Kabera, who joined Paul Kagame's Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) as a young fighter (Kadogo) and was part of the liberators choose to celebrate the day in style by launching his first album.

The lead singer in the Rwanda Army Jazz Band, has launched his 12 song album he has preferred to call Kama Jeshi, at Amahoro Stadium.

Kama Jeshi, laterally translated means like a soldier. Sgt Robert loves soldiering. "Soldiering is good. A soldier is disciplined," he said when asked to explain why he has called his album Kama Jeshi. Launching at Amahoro and on a liberation day is symbolic.

Amahoro means peace. Rwandans are now leaving together at the back of bad history.

To celebrate his break through in the music industry Sgt Robert performed along with the Army Jazz Band where he nurtured his music talent.

The Brothers, The Ben, Kitoko, Meddy, Rafiki and Tom Close also performed at the show.

Knowing regional fans could boost his career, he chose to perform with some stars from outside Rwanda who included Cindy, formally of Blue 3 and the Bwekiri singer, Rabadaba.

Sgt. Robert to launch solo album

By Linda Mbabazi (Extracted from the New Times of the 25th May 2010)

Sgt. Robert, real name Robert Kabera is set to launch his debut solo album ‘Kama Jeshi’ on July 4, 2010. You probably know him in Rwanda’s Army Jazz Band, but Sgt. Robert seems he wants to try his ability as a solo artist.

“I’m still in the Army Jazz Band, though at the same time I want to start working on my own compositions and shows,” Sgt. Robert told The New Times.

The singer, also famous for his ‘Weekend’ track said he has already contacted local and Ugandan artists, who will perform during his concert to launch the album.
The concert will be held at the Expo’s parking ground, at Amahoro stadium in Remera.

Tom Close, Kitoko and King James (local), and Uganda’s GNL Zamba of the Goodlyfe crew and Rabadaba famous for his ‘Bwekiri’ track are some of the artists, who will grace Sgt. Robert’s concert.

“I owe my fans a lot of fun during the launch of my debut album, and I’m doing all possible to make the show worthy attending,” Sgt. Robert added.
